The John Hart Dam is a critical hydroelectric facility serving the Campbell River region. This seismic upgrade enhances the dam’s safety and resilience, strengthening earthworks, foundation structures, and installing new seismic control features to meet modern earthquake performance standards. The project ensures long-term reliability for BC Hydro’s generating infrastructure while protecting downstream communities.
Rapicon West supplied a Potain MD560 40-ton tower crane to handle heavy lifts throughout the upgrade. The crane provided critical reach and capacity for moving large structural components, formwork, reinforcement cages, and other materials, enabling safe and efficient work in high-elevation and confined areas within the dam site.
The project required strict adherence to seismic design requirements, careful safety coordination, and logistics management within an active hydroelectric facility and rugged terrain. Rapicon West worked closely with Aecon-EBC General Partnership (AEGP) and other contractors to optimize crane placement, sequencing, and lift operations, ensuring efficient execution under complex constraints.
